What are the environmentally friendly (eco-friendly) products?
Environmentally friendly or otherwise known as “eco-friendly” products, are all those products which their manufacturing process, their use and their final disposal have limited impacts on the environment, compared to relative conventional products e.g., single-use plastics, products for mass consumption, chemical detergents etc.
The manufacturing process of environmentally or eco-friendly products has to do with the more sustainable use of energy, water and raw materials, while the use of these products by the public as well as their final disposal have severely less consequences on common goods such us the air, water and the soil.
All the above can be achieved given that eco products have a low “carbon footprint” (CO2 quantity emitted during their production within a time period of one year), emission of greenhouse gases is also limited during their production process, they inflict very low or even zero pollution in the soil and water accruing by the toxic substances that are released during their production and after their final disposal, they mainly concern biodegradable, recyclable and/or reusable products and finally, many of these products are made by already recycled materials, hence not wasting uncontrollably new raw materials for their production.
What are the benefits of environmentally friendly (eco) products?
Benefits for the environment
The use of environmentally friendly products in our daily life can significantly reduce the quantities of urban waste. By replacing conventional single use plastics and packaging, environmentally friendly products can be biodegradable or compostable, while in other cases they are made of higher quality endurance materials (e.g. steel, strong glass, silicone) resulting in them being reusable for one up to many more years.
It should be further noted that all high quality eco products do not contain parts neither are made of raw materials containing toxic substances for humans or the environment, such as in the cases of plastic products for mass consumption (release of dioxins and other toxic substances), toxic glues etc.
A significant advantage accruing from the above, are the reduced impacts on water, soil and the air resulting from the production, use and the disposal of these products, thus achieving a more sustainable economy by respecting the conservation of our planet’s ecological balance.
Finally, for all high quality eco products the way of production is deemed equally significant with the above, so as to be ethically produced. Raw materials in the case of bio foods come from controlled cultivation fields (not extensive monocultures) that are designed based on the climatic and soil conditions of the area in which they grow. In the case of other products, their production and manufacturing units are limited spatially, and they are environmentally certified meaning that these products do not come from mass production units and OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers).
Benefits for humans
All benefits towards humans are by no means uncorrelated to the benefits already mentioned towards the environment in which we live in.
Concerning our health, high quality eco products along with natural and plant-based cosmetics and self-care products, do not contain toxic or other harmful substances for our body and skin, such as BPAs found in mass consumption plastics or parabens in self-care creams.
Another advantage concerns the money that a person can save on the long term, via choosing reusable environmentally friendly products, thus saving a significant amount of money spent on a daily, weekly or monthly basis, simply by replacing the use of cheap plastics or other single-use products.
Finally, the moral factor also plays an important role, given that all high-quality cosmetic and self-care eco products are not tested on animals. Green & Eco Living chooses to collaborate with companies that are identified as cruelty-free, and they further do not export their products in retail markets of China and other countries for which the prerequisites also include tests on animals.
